On January 2021, 162 emergency employment workers in the 6 districts of Quezon City successfully initiated the operation of the “OFW Farms” and claimed their salaries at the QC-PESO OFW-Helpdesk.

Emergency employment is an assistance established to provide immediate support to displaced and distressed individuals thru cash-for-work program. As one of the main programs of Quezon City Public Employment Service Office, the Migrant Services Division endorsed displaced OFW beneficiaries to assist and enforce the land preparation of prospected areas to strengthen the implementation of the “Joy of Urban Farming” program of the local government. Select OFW chapters  will be  tasked with managing and maintaining these urban farms.

The “Joy of Urban Farming” is an initiative of the local government that aims to generate employment, develop livelihood sustainability, and ensure food security  by producing vegetable and ornamental products from the farm. The local government expects this program initiative will result in reduced unemployment rate as well as to contribute towards to the QC’s Road to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
